The Smallest British Bird

According to Wikipedia, the firecrest is a winter visitor to southern England.

Also according to Wikipedia, the firecrest is not a subspecies of the goldcrest but a different species within the same genus (Regulus). The goldcrest has the scientific name Regulus regulus, while the firecrest is Regulus ignicapilla. Wikipedia gives the length of a goldcrest as 8.5–9.5 cm (3.3–3.7 in) in length, and the firecrest 9 cm (3.5 in). So it would appear that the two species are the same size, but with more variance in the goldcrest!
